5 injured in elephant attack

 

In search of food, a wild elephant came down to Chakriya locality in Cox's Bazar. The elephant came to the locality on Friday morning and attacked five unions, injuring five people. After that, the elephant went to the locality of BMchar Union and returned to the forest in the evening after a long stay.

According to the locals, the elephant first left the group and moved to the locality of Chiringa Union. There he found a child in front and attacked. The elephant then attacked two children in Saharbil Union and two old women in East Bara Veola Union. Four of the five injured in the attack have been admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Another child is admitted in the Upazila Health Complex.

The injured have been identified as Umme Salma, three-year-old daughter of Abdul Mannan of Buripukur village in Chiringa union, Mohammad Hossain, 3, son of Helal Uddin of Rampur village in Saharbil union and Mahima Begum, 7, daughter of Mohammad Selim, wife of Manjurul Alam (60) and Ayesha Begum (65), wife of Ahmed Hossain of Charpara of the same union.

Meanwhile, after receiving the news, the Forest Department, Safari Park officials along with Mahut, ERT and police members went to the spot and tried to return the elephant to its habitat. After trying all day, they were able to cross the Matamuhuri River in the evening and enter the Paharchanda forest of the Chunti Wildlife Sanctuary.

Chakriya Bangabandhu Safari Park Assistant Superintendent in this regard. Mazharul Islam Chowdhury said the elephant came to the locality from Fansiakhali Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food. The other elephants return to their homes before dawn, but the elephants run away. I have heard that some people were injured in the elephant attack.

Chakaria Police Station OC Shaker Mohammad Jubayer said, "Police personnel along with forest department and safari park officials were also deployed to bring back the elephants to the locality." The son of a woman injured in an elephant attack has filed a general diary at the police station. No information is known about the others.
