Mirza Fakhrul's 73rd birthday was celebrated with the love of leaders and activists


Although there was no formality on the birthday, the 63rd birthday of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was celebrated with the love of the leaders and workers. He was born on 26 January 1948 in Thakurgaon.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir woke up on the telephone of his expatriate daughter Mirza Samaruh and youngest daughter Mirza Safaruh in Dhaka on the first morning of his birthday on Tuesday. Many friends and leaders telephoned to greet the BNP secretary general. Some foreign friends also wished him a happy birthday in the morning. Leaders and workers of every level of the party wished happy birthday through social media.

In the morning, Mirza Fakhrul said, I have set foot in 73 years. Birthday means one more year has passed, from old to old. The eldest daughter telephoned from Australia, said Happy Birthday. The youngest daughter lives in Dhaka. He also woke up his father in the morning and made a wish. Family of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Rahat Ara Begum with two daughters. They live in a rented house in Uttara.

The eldest daughter, Mirza Shamaruh, a professor of biochemistry at Dhaka University, is in Australia with her husband and children. There he took a post doctoral fellowship at a university in Sydney. He is currently a Senior Scientist at the Federal Medical Council in Canberra, Australia. Youngest daughter Mirza Safaruh teaches at Sunny Dale School in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Mirza Fakhrul joined the teaching profession after obtaining bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from Dhaka University. He was a teacher in the Department of Economics at Dhaka College. In his student life, Fakhrul was the president of the East Pakistan Students Union branch at Dhaka University and also the elected general secretary of the SM Hall branch. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir directly participated in the liberation war of 1971.

He left government service in 1986 and entered active politics. In 1988, Fakhrul was elected the first chairman of Thakurgaon municipality. In 1992, he was the president of Thakurgaon district BNP and first vice-president and later president of Krishak Dal. He is a two-time Member of Parliament from the BNP and also the Minister of State in Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's government.

Fakhrul was by the side of Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain with the BNP led by Khaleda Zia during the difficult times of 1/11. After the death of Mirza Fakhrul, senior joint secretary general and Khandaker Delwar Hossain, a member of the party's executive committee, Fakhrul was elected acting secretary general of the party in 2011 and full secretary general in 2016 through the Sixth National Council.

In the 11th general election of 2016, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected Member of Parliament from Bogra-6 constituency. As he did not take oath, BNP's GM Siraj was elected in the by-election of that constituency.
